Following a plan and building your boat
s Now it is time to build your boat. Gather together all of your materials and your design on a prepared workspace. Ask the teacher for assistance with any activities requiring the use of sharp objects like scissors. It should look something like this. Use the class camera to take a photo for inclusion in your project book.
Now build your boat according to your design. Decorate it however you like. Remember we are going to race it in the miniature boat race at the school fete so make sure your boat stands out from the rest! Remember to check your design plan to make sure you are correct!
When it is finished it will probably look something like this (see below). Take a photo for inclusion in your project book.

Testing the final product
Any time something is built, it must be tested to ensure that it works properly. Everyone in the class will have a turn at testing their boat. We will be looking to see:
Below is an image of the example boat being tested.
- Does each boat match the design?
- Does it float?
- Has it incorporated the balloon and the straw?
- Does it move when force is applied using the balloon and straw?

Evaluating the success of your boat and planning
When a product is built and tested, the company will evaluate the success of their design against a number of key criteria. This will determine whether the product design was a success and whether it will be used in the future.
As you have designed and developed a product of your own, you must now evaluate the success of your project. In your project book you will find an evaluation page like the one below.
Decide whether your design and construction worked well and if there was anything that you would do differently to make your boat even better next time.

Once you have completed this last page of your project book, hand it to your teacher.
Congratulations! You have successfully designed and developed a product of your own. We now have our boats ready to race!
